Sol Avisar
Principal
Sol is a member of the Law Society of Ontario having been called to the bar in 1991. He brings to SWOT Law over 30 years of experience and a passion for client service. He has a long track record of success as a litigator and as corporate commercial lawyer. Sol has highly specialized expertise in the field of intellectual property law.
His journey in the law began at the University of New Brunswick law school from which he graduated in 1989. Thereafter completed his articles at a large national firm in Toronto. Sol started a law firm immediately after being called to the Bar of Ontario in 1991. He grew this to a mid sized firm serving companies of all sizes from multinationals to startups.
Sol prides himself on working collaboratively within a wide ecosystem that he has built over his career. In working with Sol, you will have access to his broad network of investors, professional service providers and strategic partners.
As a serial entrepreneur himself, he understands full well the pitfalls and rewards of running a business. His passion is in sharing his expertise and hard earned lessons to help business grow. Sol’s strength is in providing solution oriented advice based on outside of the box thinking to solve complex problems. He is a firm believer in the principle that the best way forward is to manage reality and not avoid it. He will deal with your reality bringing to bear a combination of legal expertise, business acumen and creativity.
Sol is at heart a life long learner and innovator. He started his career as a neuroscientist at the Montreal Neurological Institute. He obtained a Master’s degree from the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. While at McGill he taught Neuroanatomy to nursing students. From there his career took a turn towards the law. Prior to his graduate studies, he attended Queen’s University where he was granted both B.A and a B.Sc.
Through his career, has worn many hats from legal counsel to private and public companies. He has had the pleasure of serving on the board of directors of both profit and not for profit organizations. He has been a technology company founder, investor and CEO.
Sol is a sculptor, painter and has traveled widely. He has two adult daughters that are his pride and joy.
Sol’s fur child, Bunjie, is an Australian Shepherd/Tasmanian Devil crossbreed.
